EIT Health Transformative Healthcare Instrument

Objectif

EIT´s Transformative Health Instrument (THI) call is designed to foster the European healthcare innovation ecosystem and drive innovation and competitiveness by supporting high-potential Micro, Small and Medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The THI offers between 300,000 – 500,000 EUR in grant funding to propel cutting-edge ventures forward and prepare them for the next steps in fundraising, product development and commercialisation.

The Transformative Health Instrument (THI) call invites micro, small, and medium enterprises (SMEs) to submit applications for funding to support the development of scalable health technologies in Biotech, Medtech, Digital Health & AI, Biomarker / Diagnostics or a combination of these. Applicants should address unmet needs in Europe with novel and commercially viable approaches, scientific excellence, and strong internal capabilities.

Depending on the focus of the company, applicants’ solutions must be at the following innovation maturity levels (IML) at the time of application:
• IML ≥ 5 for Biotech (Safety/Toxicity study stage).
• IML≥ 6 in Medtech (Initial clinical PoC).
• IML ≥ 7 for Digital (Market validation).
• IML ≥ 7 for Biomarker Diagnostics.

The funded innovation must be premised on a viable existing or future business model and a legally registered, for-profit entity with the proper capabilities to develop, market and scale the solution.

Critères d'éligibilité

The following requirements and definitions shall apply
to all applicants:
• The entity is a legally registered for-profit micro, small, or medium enterprise according to the European Commission SME definition.
• The entity must have at least 4 full-time equivalent (FTE).
• The company must have successfully closed an equity funding round (Qualified Investment Round) of a minimum total investment of 2,000,000 EUR within a 36-month period, with at least one new investor contributing.

• The applicant must be eligible to Horizon Europe.

Technologies clés

The THI call seeks SMEs developing innovative solutions in Biotech, MedTech, Digital Health & AI, and Biomarker/Diagnostics sectors. EIT Health will co-fund projects to develop scalable health technologies that address an unmet clinical need in Europe, and that can adapt to diverse healthcare systems, regulatory environments, and cultural contexts in Europe. The solution should have a clear strategy for regulatory approval and clinical evidence collection with potential for widespread adoption and impact across Europe.

Typologie de consortium

Projects may request between 300,000 and 500,000 EUR in EIT Health funding. EIT Health will fund a maximum of 50% of the project’s total costs. The company must secure the remaining 50% co-funding from other sources.

All funded projects under this Call are expected to generate the following outcomes and long-term impact:
• Commercial acceleration, including attracting additional funding, closing future venture capital investments, and growing revenue (where applicable).
• Developing and accelerating new health innovations with high potential to positively impact the lives of the citizens of Europe, as well as to generate financial returns.
• Protection of new innovations and micro, small, and medium enterprises (SME´s) via intellectual property (IP) strategy.

Projects should last no longer than 12 months.
