OpenAgri 1st open call
The goal is to make Agricultural Digital Technologies (ADSs) providers and end-users collaborate and co-create new Open Source (OS) ADSs building on existing mature cloud solutions, demonstrating both Edge and Cloud/mixed versions of the ADSs, and piloting them in areas with low connectivity to compare the results and see if the performance of the new solution is adequate.
The Open Call (OC) will select 9 new SIPs of the same structure as the 5 core SIPs. The OC will focus on countries, crops, overall conditions, production processes and/or technologies not already covered by project SIPs, with the expectation that they will benefit from the most recent developments and innovations in the area.
Within OpenAgri Open Call, the following types of crop production and livestock management applications/solutions (but not limited to) are expected to be funded:
● Crop Pest and/or Disease Detection
● Animal Behaviour Monitoring
● Animal Health Monitoring
● Animal Disease Detection
● Animal Welfare Monitoring
● Smart Irrigation Management
● Smart Fertilization Management
● Crop Growth and Health Monitoring
● Soil Health, Soil Quality and Weather Analysis
● Farm Management and Decision Support
● Farm automations and robotics
● Biodiversity monitoring
● Agroecology, agroforestry, organic and regenerative agriculture
● Supply chain management
Real-time image data and other types of data analysis, AI-based analytics, ML models and sensor technologies, moisture, soil nutrient and weather data, Open source cloud/edge based robotic solutions for weeding, harvesting, pruning, or spraying
The OpenAgri project through the Open Call process aims to support the development, improvement and utilisation in operational environments of new Agricultural Digital Solutions (ADS) that will satisfy the following requirements:
• The ADSs will be innovative, cost-effective, energy-efficient, and address important challenges of crop production and livestock management.
• The ADSs will be based on emerging technologies and use open-source software and/or open hardware principles. The ADSs themselves do not in the final analysis need to be Open Source.
• The functionalities offered by the ADSs will be identified through a co-creation process involving both the technology provider and end-users.
• Two versions of the ADSs are expected to be delivered and evaluated, one version that operates in a cloud computing environment and one that operates in a mixed cloud/edge or fully edge computing environment.
• All new SIPs are expected to integrate at least one of the OpenAgri reusable OS Services in their solutions, thereby saving valuable time and effort in the process. OpenAgri OS solutions pipeline is described here: https://horizon-openagri.eu/os-solutions/.
• All new ADSs are expected follow interoperability standards, adopt the OpenAgri Common Semantic Model for data exchange with the provided OS services.
• All new SIPs will deliver some openly available outputs thereby contributing to Open-Source Software and/or Open Hardware. Relevant outputs can include contributions to software, trained AI/ML algorithms with their training datasets, or open hardware.
Each selected consortium will be funded up to EUR 100K to pilot projects with a maximum duration of 18 months. The ADSs need to have a high starting TRL (TRL>5).
OpenAgri Open Call aims to attract small consortia of two entities and should be formed by an Agricultural Digital Solutions (ADSs) provider (SME, university, research institute, non-profit organization) and an end-user (a farm, farm structure, farm cooperative or other agrifood production organisation or company representing farms).
Eligible applicants must be established in EU Member States and/or Horizon Europe Associated Countries.
