6G-PATH Open Call #2
6G-PATH is launching Open Call #2 to fund and bring 30 new innovative use cases into the Beyond 5G (B5G)/6G ecosystem. We’re looking for forward-thinking industry (startups, SMEs) and research organisations to propose a use case that leverages the 6G-PATH infrastructure, namely the project’s 7 cutting-edge testbeds and the 2 testbeds funded through Open Call #1.
Funded projects are expected to contribute to B5G/6G innovation, and shape the digital future across four verticals: Health, Education, Smart Cities, and Farming.
Use case topics for B5G and 6G technologies:
Smart city topic : Sensing and communication, Autonomous mobility, Security and safety, City monitoring and multimodal transportation intelligent systems, Private and public 5G networks integration, Environmental and mobility monitoring, Machine learning and federation, Use of TSN standards for precise time synchronisation and service differentiation, UAVs integrated with B5G mobile base stations, far-edge computing, mesh networks, and Starlink Mini stations for first responder and swarm use cases, Applications installed on robotic systems for real-time data processing at the edge or user
equipment, Optimisation mechanisms and techniques for improving production processes, Urban Mobility and Critical Infrastructure Supervision
Education topic: Immersive and Augmented Learning Experiences, Hybrid Classroom Models, Holographic Presence for Remote Teaching, Volumetric Capture and XR Tools
Farming topic : AI analysis of crops, insects, pests, and diseases, ISAC technology for persons and animals detections in the field
Health topic : eHealth and medical applications enhancing communication, diagnostics, and care delivery through advanced networking, Assisted living and remote healthcare support for vulnerable or ageing populations using sensing and connectivity solutions
Various topics : XR, haptics, and other low-latency applications leveraging the low-latency features of the KAU testbed and/or the MMT extension for immersive media experiences, Service differentiation and resource isolation through network slicing and QoD APIs, Security- and privacy-focused use cases for data protection and trusted communications, content development and integration into Education platforms, 5G-NTN use cases, Power consumption tracking in gNodeB and CPEs, 5G location features, Edge AI use cases improving service quality and user experience through edge-cloud continuum orchestration, Intelligent robotics and human-robot collaboration for smart manufacturing, agriculture, and other industrial domains, Swarm robotics leveraging B5G/6G for coordinated, distributed intelligence in dynamic environments, Autonomous or Teleoperated Robots for Monitoring, Digital Twin Integrations (e.g., weather stations, radar systems, mobile robots), Immersive XR Gaming & Metaverse Experiences , AI-Assisted Remote Industrial Inspection, Real Time Digital Twin for Smart Ports, Public Safety & Disaster Response B5G Cells, Predictive Edge Analytics for Connected Mobility
The 6G-PATH – Open Call #2 aims to fund projects that will develop innovative solutions and services that use the 6G-PATH infrastructure, including established testbeds and those introduced through the Open Call #1 projects. Funded projects will represent new use cases that demonstrate the capabilities of the 6G-PATH infrastructure. For this reason, they must also show novelty beyond the use cases already being developed in 6G-PATH.
Each application may receive a maximum of up to €60,000.
In their applications, applicants are required to select:
● One (1) testbed they are interested in working with, from the original seven 6G-PATH testbeds or two new testbeds (6G-PathToVLC / 6G-INCOGNICO), and
● One (1) of the use case topics defined for the selected testbed.
The 6G-PATH – Open Call #2 will ensure a balanced geographic distribution of applications per testbed, also considering the number of extensions integrated through Open Call #1.
Specific project technical requirements that will be pre-assessed through a technical eligibility check, and based on a specific section of the proposal, include:
● A minimum TRL of 6, with a proper rationale.
● Explicit alignment with one of the four 6G-PATH verticals: Health, Education, Smart Cities and Farming.
● Selection of one of the use case topics.
● Proper use of the 6G-PATH infrastructure to showcase beyond 5G innovation
The accepted applicants for the 6G-PATH – Open Call #2 are:
● Individual legal entities, either SMEs (including startups) or research organisations (RTOs or academia/higher education organisations).
● Two or more entities applying as a consortium are not eligible.
Legal entities from the following countries are eligible to receive funding through this Open Call:
● European Union Member States, with a valid VAT and PIC number.
● Specific third countries associated to Horizon Europe: Iceland, Norway, Canada, Israel, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom).
